Solar Panel Installation in Peterhead & Aberdeenshire
Design, supply and fitting of solar PV systems for houses, farms and business premises — surveyed, quoted and installed by one team from start to finish.
What a Solar Panel Installation Involves
We start with a site visit, not a form. Someone comes to your property, gets on the roof or walks the land, checks your electricity meter and consumer unit, and asks how you actually use power through the day. That survey decides system size — there's little point fitting more panels than your roof or your usage can justify.
From there you get a written quote covering panel count, expected output, mounting method, cabling route, and the inverter location. No vague allowances. If your roof needs work before panels go on, we say so at this stage rather than discovering it mid-install.
Is Your Roof Suitable?
Most pitched roofs across Aberdeenshire will take panels, but orientation, shading and roof condition all affect output. South-facing roofs perform best; east and west-facing roofs still work, just with a different generation curve through the day. Slate and clay tile are both fine for standard mounting; older roofs sometimes need battens or flashing replaced first, which is where our roof repairs and preparation service comes in.
Flat roofs and ground-floor extensions need a different mounting frame set at an angle — we'll tell you during the survey whether that applies to you.
Timeframe & What to Expect on Install Day
A typical domestic install takes one to two days: scaffolding or roof access set up first, then mounting rails, panels, cabling, and the inverter and battery (if you're having one) fitted and tested. We register the system with your electricity network operator and leave you with clear instructions for the app or in-home display before we go.
Larger commercial, agricultural or ground-mounted systems run longer and are scheduled around your business hours where possible.
Choosing the Right System
Not every property needs the same setup. Homeowners typically want a straightforward residential PV system, sometimes paired with battery storage to use more of what they generate. Farms and larger sites often need a commercial or agricultural system sized around three-phase supply and daytime equipment use. We'll recommend based on your roof, your land and your bill — not a standard package.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a solar panel installation take?
Most domestic installs take one to two days once we're on site. Larger commercial or ground-mounted systems take longer, and we'll give you a job-specific timeframe with your quote.
Do I need planning permission for solar panels?
Most roof-mounted domestic installations fall under permitted development, but listed buildings, conservation areas and some ground-mounted or agricultural installations may need consent. We check this as part of your free survey.
Will solar panels work with Aberdeenshire's weather?
Yes. Panels generate from daylight, not direct heat, so they still produce in overcast conditions. Output is lower in December and January and higher through spring and summer, which we factor into system sizing.
